Support Specification

Support Placement Instructions

Use Place by Structure when the support is placed on horizontal pipes running perpendicular to the supporting column. Place by Structure should also be used when there is a combination of horizontal and vertical pipes.

  1. Use the Place by Structure method only.

  2. Select all the horizontal pipes first, and then select the vertical pipes.

  3. Select the structure.

  4. If the support is not placed in the correct orientation, use Toggle Connection to Straight Feature and Toggle Connection to Structure. There are up to four toggles.

Use Place by Point when the support is placed on vertical pipes running parallel to the supporting column.

  1. Use the Place by Point method.

  2. Select the pipes.

  3. Select the structure.

  4. If the support is not placed in the correct orientation, use Toggle Connection to Straight Feature and Toggle Connection to Structure to change the orientation. There are up to four toggles.

Toggle Connection to Structure - Toggles the field support to attach to the opposite face on the supporting steel section.

Toggle Connection to Straight Feature - Toggles the field support to be above or below the horizontal pipes.

  • When placing a support for a combination of vertical and horizontal pipes, and the vertical pipe is the farthest from the steel, the length and positioning of the support is incorrect. There is no workaround for this in previous to V7 SP4.

  • Pipe sizes for supports FS4T and USS are not specified. For now, supports work for pipe diameter from ¾” to 12”. This diameter range can be modified by changing values in columns NDFrom and NDTo in Excel sheets FS4T and USS in workbook HS_FlSample_Assy.xls.

  • Dry weight for support FS4T is zero. There is a problem with part (B24_Steel_HDG) used in this support. The problem is fixed in SP3D V7, Service Pack 5.
