Smart Materials/Smart Reference Data Version
2020 (10.0)

If you want to start with Smart Materials 2020 (10.0.0) and did not work with a former version, you will start with an initial database and enter data completely by yourself or with the imported standard database SDB.

  • If you are already working with Smart Materials and want to update your database to version 2020 (10.0.0), skip this section and continue with Smart Materials Database Upgrade. You must not follow the instructions in this section.

  • If you want to import a best practice database (SDB), skip this section and continue with Smart Materials Database Upgrade. You must not follow the instructions in this section.

  • Before installing Smart Materials, ensure that an empty database already exists, as described in the previous sections (see Smart Materials Database Creation).

  • Make sure that Oracle services and database are running before installing Smart Materials.

  • To ensure that SQL*Plus insert statements properly encode special characters (for example, German umlauts like ä, ö, ü) and consequently correctly store in the database, set environment variable NLS_LANG to .AL32UTF8 on the client/server where you run SQL*Plus, as follows:

    1. Open the Environment Variables dialog.

    2. Click New to create a new variable.

    3. Type NLS_LANG in the Variable name box.

    4. Type .AL32UTF8 in the Variable value box.

    5. Click OK.
