Associated materials are materials that the software automatically places whenever you place the material with which it is associated. The process for defining associated materials begins in the sizes grid.

  1. In the Material Builder tree view, select the item to which to associate a material. For example, select the weld neck flange with item code FCD150-WNRS30.

If the Material Builder is not open, click Insert Material or Edit Material on the Material Editor toolbar.

  2. In the Sizes grid, scroll to the Associated Materials cell, and then click Browse . As shown in the example, the software displays the current size (12 in) in the status bar when you click the Associated Materials cell.

The software opens the Associate Materials dialog box displays, which consists of a tree view. The top node displays the current size. The nodes beneath display associated materials (if any have been defined), including size, quantity and attribute data for each material. You can also use the Associated Materials dialog box to edit and delete associated materials.

  3. Click Add to add an associated material to the current size.

The Add Associated Materials dialog box displays. The tree view on the left displays all the materials in the database regardless of the current group and any filter assignments. Item codes display with the icon. Component types display with the icon. Any additional materials that are present in the active database also display in the tree view.

  4. Use the tree view to navigate to and select the associated material (item code) to add.

  5. Expand the tree view on the right side of the Add Associated Materials dialog box, and select a size. If only one size is available for the selected item code, there is no need to select it. In the example, the 2-in x 2-in gasket (GACA150-RG2) is selected.

  6. Type a value in the Quantity box. The default value is 1.

  7. Click OK to close the Add Associated Material dialog box, and then click OK to close the Associated Materials dialog box.

The software updates the tree view in the Associated Materials dialog box to display the material (2-in x 2-in gasket GACA150-RG2) you added.

The software also displays the number of materials associated to the current size.

  8. Click Update to add the associated material to the database.
