You can define build rules for an item group or for a specific component within an item group. The steps in the following procedure walk you through the process of defining build rules for the Pipe item group.

When you define build rules for an item group, those rules apply to all new materials within that item group, except for any components that have their own build rules. In those cases, component-specific build rules override the item group build rules.

  1. Click Tools > Material Wizard Tools Editor.

  2. On the General tab, verify the following:

    • Fixed length fields option is checked

    • Padding character = -

    • Free format field option is checked

    • Length = 2

    • Part descriptor separator = comma followed by a space (, )

    • Maximum description length = 50

  3. Select the Component tab, and then click Pipe in the tree view.

  4. Type P in the Item code prefix box.

  5. Type PIPE in the Description prefix box.

  6. Type PIPE in the SKEY box.

  7. Click View List Tables .

The List Table dialog box displays.

  8. Add the following list tables to the build rules:

    • Click PipeSpec, and then click Use List Table.

    • Click Grade, and then click Use List Table.

    • Click Thickness, and then click Use List Table.

  9. Click Close.

  10. Click Material Wizard on the Material Wizard Rules Editor toolbar.

The software opens the Material Wizard dialog box, which has been populated using the rules that you have defined.

In the previous example, the Material Wizard dialog box displays the list tables (A) and the prefix definitions (B) that you specified on the Components tab and the Free format field option that you selected on the General tab.

  11. Click Cancel to return to the Material Wizard Rules Editor dialog box.
