A batch queue accepts requests to execute scripts or commands from the keyboard as if the user submitting the request were logged in to the system. Jobs are executed in a batch queue. The resulting output returns to the directory from which the original requestor submitted the job. You can request the output to remain on the executing node or return to a remote node.

Batch queues can also have a list of shells associated with them, allowing an administrator to configure a queue to run certain types of scripts. For example, a batch queue may be set up to run scripts for the Perl program. See also queue.
