Because Spoolgen is frequently used with 3D plant design software, its importing capabilities allow you to load piping data from other plant design systems, such as PDS, PDMS AutoPlant, and Smart Isometrics, and then edit the data using the tools available in Spoolgen. The current version of the software supports the following design file formats:

  • Piping Component File (PCF)

  • Intermediate Data File (IDF)

  • Piping Object Data (POD) file

The software imports piping design files into the active project and processes each file as follows:

  • Processes .idf and .pcf files through Isogen to create a .pod file.

  • Re-applies stored replay actions if the file is a new version of a file currently in the project database.

  • Moves the .pod file and the original Isogen file to the data store.

  • Stores details of the import in the related project database. The file is assigned a Pending status, meaning it is ready to be edited.

You can import design files individually or in batch mode. When importing on an individual basis, the software prompts you to open and check out the file from the associated project database. If you select Yes, the software displays the file on screen and the user status is set to In Process. If you select No, the status is set to Pending. The pipeline can then be checked out later.

After import, all the Spoolgen commands are available. You can view pipeline components in spool order, detail the isometric as usual, and then generate a new spool or isometric drawing showing your modifications.
