  1. Make all the definitions as described in steps 1-9 in the Define a New Naming Convention procedure.

  2. Select the Apply current naming convention only to cables belonging to single-core cable assemblies check box to define a naming convention for cables in single-core cable assemblies.

If you do not select this check box, cables in single-core cable assemblies will not have any naming conventions and the names of new cables will comply with the definitions in the General Settings window in Options Manager.

  3. To determine the sequencing of cables within the assembly, select an appropriate setting in the General Settings window > Tag sequence method for cables in in single-core cable assemblies:

    Identical

Sets the tag sequencing of the cables in a single-core cable assembly to be identical in the group and the cable uniqueness identifier is a number

    Examples: Cable - 174-1; Cable - 174-2; Cable - 174-3

    Consecutive

Sets the tag sequencing of the cables in a single-core cable assembly to be consecutive. This setting makes the names of the cables in the assembly unique without the need of a uniqueness identifier.

    Examples: Cable - 181; Cable - 182; Cable - 183

Changing the sequencing method of cables in single-core cable assemblies does not affect the tag sequencing of existing cables.

  4. Define the composition of the naming convention by selecting the appropriate naming convention segments and their definitions in the Segment definitions grid. See steps 12-17 in the Define a New Naming Convention topic.

When renaming a cable in a single-core cable assembly and a naming convention has been defined, you can rename all unprotected segments of the item tag. The protected segments of the item tag cannot be renamed. If no naming convention has been defined, all segments of the item type can be renamed.
