Display Points

Moves the points in an animation path to adjust dates and motion rates within the start and end date. Point numbers are assigned sequentially based on their order in an animation path. This applies to both Key Frame and Display Set animations.

The point numbering for Display Set animations correlates to the order in which the point is placed when the path is created. For Key Frame animations, the point number corresponds to each frame in the view group by order of their frame numbers (lowest to highest). To see the frames, open the Save and Recall Views dialog box and select the view group defined for the animation.

When you move a point to a later date, the speed changes for the display set or the key frame view as it moves to and from that point. You can also move a point to change the date if a display set and key frame must be synchronized to a location at a specific time.

  1. Create your animations, and then click Animation > Sequencer.

    • You can also use ALT + Q to open the Sequencer.

    • You must have at least one animation to use all of the Sequencer features.

    • A Key Frame animation must have at least two points or saved views to display in the Sequencer.

    • Points can only be moved within the constraints of their neighboring points. You cannot change the physical location of a point in the Sequencer. You must edit the path in the Smart Review main view.

  2. Click Display Points to only show the points in the animation paths.

For Display Set animation paths, the points are indicated by numbered tab symbols, as shown in the above example.

Animation points for Key Frame animations are also numbered, but they represent each frame or saved view.

  3. Depending on your zoom level, some points may be hidden or overlapped by neighboring points because they are too close together. Click Zoom in to see point order numbering more clearly.

For numbers above 99, the point tab symbol shows only two significant digits. Hover your mouse over a point to see the tooltip which shows the entire point order. You can also select the point to see its order number.

  4. Click on the point to edit.

The outline of the symbol changes to show the point is selected.

    - Display Set animation point

    - Key Frame animation point

  5. Click on the point again and then drag it to the new date.

The cursor changes to a bold cross hair to indicate drag-and-drop mode.

You cannot drag the point outside of the current start and end dates of the path. When this happens, the tooltip text turns red as shown in the example below.

If you drop the point, its location changes to a position next to its neighboring point. In the example below, Display Set point 2 now resides just to the left of point 3.

This functionality lets you quickly move points that are close together.

For Key Frame points, Smart Review automatically changes the time information of the frame. Changes to a frame in Key Frame animations are also reflected in the Save and Recall Views dialog box settings.

  6. Click Play to see your changes.

You can select a point in the Animation Sequencer and use the Fit command in Smart Review to fit the main view to the point. For example, click on a point in the Animation Sequencer and then click Fit in the 3D Navigator. Smart Review locates and fits to the point in the Main view.
