Set Start
Set End

The Set Start and Set End commands in the Animation Sequencer can be used when creating Display Set and Key Frame animations to set their start and end dates. You can also use these commands to change the start and end dates of the playback. This allows you to see animations running within a specific time block. Use Increase and Decrease Playback commands to adjust the speed as the animation is playing.

Before You Create Animations

Follow the steps below to set start and end time of your Key Frame and Display Set animations.

  1. Click Animation > Sequencer.

You can also use ALT + Q to open the Sequencer.

  2. In the Time Area pane, click in the area under the date you want as the start date.

Animation Time Block

Follow the steps below to change the start and end times of your animation playback. This changes the time block area, or playback time, for all selected animation types. The time block area is shaded in gray in the Sequencer.

  1. After you have created your animations, click Animation > Sequencer.

  2. In the Time Area pane, click in the area under the date you want as the new start date.

Use CTRL + mouse wheel to zoom closer into the timeline for more time details.

The vertical progress bar automatically moves to the new time. The example figure below shows the progress bar moved to October 23, 2011.

  3. Click Set Start on the Sequencer toolbar.

The frame corresponding to that date in the animation is set as the first frame in the playback. The Time Block (gray-shaded area) is moved to the new start date.

  4. To set a new end date, click in the area under the date you want to use.

The vertical progress bar automatically moves to the new end time.

  5. Click Set End on the Sequencer toolbar.

The frame corresponding to that date in the animation is set as the last frame in the time block.

  6. Click Increase and Decrease Playback commands in the Sequencer toolbar to change the playback speed. These two commands correspond to the Step in Days value on the Common page of the Animation Playback/Capture Settings dialog box. Using these commands changes the Step in days values. For more information, see Common Playback/Capture Settings.

Click Set Extents to reset the time block area back to the first and last animation paths in the project.

Example

The example below shows display set animations contained in the Platform folder. The start date of animations in the Platform folder start on 2/14/2013, and end on 3/12/2013. The time block, noted by the gray area in the grid, is set to span the start and end times of that folder.

The figure below shows the end date on the time block changed from 3/12/2013 to 3/10/2013 using the Set End command.
