Animation > Playback/Capture Settings > Record

To use Display Set and Key Frame animations, you must install the Simulation and Visual Effects module. To use ScheduleReview, you must install the Construction module.

Configures settings to record either static images or an AVI of an animation. An AVI file is saved when the animation playback is stopped or when the recording is stopped. By default, the record operation uses the Step in days time setting in the Dynamic update section on the Common page to calculate the length of the AVI file. You can change the length of the AVI to be recorded by using the Video output length option.

When recording a Display Set animation, use the Overrides option in the Display Sets page (see Display Set Playback/Capture Settings) to turn on or off display options such as material color and lighting.

Dimensions

Ignore aspect ratio

Specifies whether to ignore the aspect ratio of the selected extent or to stretch the image to fix the specified height and width. Select this option if you do not want the software to consider the aspect ratio of the view extent. If you do not select Ignore Aspect, the software stretches the image to the specified height and width.

Scale

Specifies the aspect ratio between the height and width of the image/animation.

Width

Specifies the width in pixels of the snapshot image.

Height

Specifies the height of the snapshot image in pixels. If the Ignore aspect option is off, the Width, Height, and Scale in the Dimensions box are limited by the aspect ratio of the Main view. If you change one field, the other fields change accordingly. If you select Ignore aspect ratio, the Scale option is disabled and set to its default value. You can then change Width and Height fields.

Options

Raytrace image

Allows you to raytrace the snapshot and save the raytraced image to a file. To use this option, you must install the Photo-Realism module.

The Renderer supports saving Key Frame animation snapshots to a file and creating an .avi file for the animation. When you run Record, the Renderer raytraces the current contents of the Renderer window. Based on your Output file name type, the software creates an image or an .avi file. For Display Set and ScheduleReview animation snapshots, you can use any screen capture utility to take a screen shot of each animation frame as it displays in the Renderer window. Display Set and ScheduleReview animation snapshots are not supported by the Renderer.

Sphere

Generates a series of .jpg or .png files that can be used to create a 360 degree spherical video. You can use a third-party application to connect the images together to create an .avi file. The 360 video would a low you to see the model as if you were walking through the model and looking left, right, up, and down.

Print only

Specifies that all snapshots go directly to the current default printer instead of to files on the computer disk.

Rotate 90 degrees

Allows the rotation of output by 90 degrees. If the Rotate 90 degrees toggle is on, the output image rotates 90 degrees (clockwise) for plotting purposes. If you capture the image/animation without the capture form, Smart Review scans the screen image from left-to-right, instead of top-to-bottom.

Anti-alias

Sets the anti-alias value for the recording. The Anti-alias value determines how much data is captured and averaged to produce the recording. If Anti-alias is set to 2, then Smart Review captures and averages twice as much data for the width and height. If you multiply the Anti- alias value by the Scale value and square the result, the end answer is the number of "Main views" of data that Smart Review processes. The Anti-alias value defaults to 1, which means that no anti-aliasing occurs.

The software does not support Anti-alias if you have enabled Ambient Occlusion or Outlining (with a width of value of 1) view settings.

Video output length

Changes the length of the AVI to be recorded (in hours:minutes:seconds). By default, the output length is determined by the Step in days setting in the Common page of the Animation Playback/Capture Settings dialog box. A rate of 30 frames per second at a minimum is recommended; the default calculation is:

([Number of frames]/30)/86400 (number of seconds in a day)

Type a new length, if required. When you enter a new length, the software automatically adjusts the Step in days setting.

Output file name

Indicates the path and file name where you want to save the image. You can create a multimedia (AVI) file that can be viewed with a third-party media player, or you can create static images in raster formats such as BMP (Windows Bitmap) files. The AVI file is compressed using the Microsoft Video 1 codec. This codec is an available standard on all current Microsoft operating systems.

By default, the Output file name field automatically provides the path and file name [Project File Name].avi. For example, if you use the sample project file sprdemo.dri on a system running Windows 7, the Output file name field initially provides sprdemo.avi as the file name and file type. Click Browse to change the path, file name, or file format.
