Tools > Collision Detection > Detect along Move

Detect collisions on the primary display set as you move or rotate it using the numeric keypad.

  • Because collision detection is performed as the display set moves, there could be performance issues.

  • This command is not supported when using the animation player and for display set drag-and-drop operations.

The steps below describe how to detect collisions as you move your primary display set, which is the display set that is associated to the collision set you are using.

  1. Click Tools > Collision Detection > Detect Collisions, select the Default Collision Set, and then select a display set in the Main view.
    -OR-
Click Tools > Collision Detection > Detect Collisions, and select a custom collision set that already has a display set associated to it. For more information on custom collision sets, see Create a Custom Collision Set.

  2. To make sure display set motion is enabled, click Motion > [Display Set Name].

  3. Click Tools > Collision Detection > Detect along Move.

  4. Use the Num Lock + numeric keypad combination to move and rotate the display set:

    • Keys 1 - 9 move the display set. The 0 key toggles the Continuous Motion option. The period key (.) repeats the last direction one step. The 5 key toggles the step direction.

    • For rotation, the forward backslash or divide key (/) on the numeric keypad turns the display set to the left. The asterisk or multiply key (*) turns the display set to the right. Use SHIFT+/ to rotate a display set to the left around the view axis. Use SHIFT+* to rotate a display set to the right around its axis.

The figure below shows a tank display set being moved. It is colliding with the railing object, which is the secondary object in the collision. Both primary and secondary objects in a collision are indicated by a wireframe box around each.

Smart Review generates a collision run for each display set move.

  5. To review each collision detection run and see the resulting report, click Show Details on the Detect Collisions dialog box.

  6. Click Next or Previous to cycle through each collision. The collision is highlighted in the Main view.
    -OR-
Click Display All to highlight all collisions in the Main view.

  7. To review each collision and generate a collision report, see View Collision Reports for more information.
