Displays a Preferences dialog that allows you to change some preferences.

Cloud Display Tab

Provides options for specifying the point thickness and interference point thickness.

Point Thickness - Type a value in pixels for the width of each point in a point cloud display.

Interference Point Thickness - Type a value in pixels for the width of each point in an interference check display.

Pick/Visible Tab

Provides options to hide and unhide snap on cloud points.

Toggles the overall visibility of point clouds. Points might still be hidden by the limit box, hidden regions, slice, and section.

Used to toggle the ability to select the point clouds.

The preferences commands changes the ModelSpace View settings and these changes are saved in the database. To temporarily hide or unhide the cloud display, select PointCloud - Leica Geoystems Inc. from the Workspace Explorer, Right-click and select Hide or Show to restore point cloud display.

To toggle point cloud visibility

  1. Select CloudWorx > Preferences > Pick/Visible.

    The Pick/Visible dialog appears.

  2. Select or clear the Hide All Cloud Points check box, and then click OK.

To toggle snap on point clouds

  1. Select CloudWorx > Preferences > Pick/Visible.

    The Pick/Visible dialog appears.

  2. Select or clear the Disable Snap On Cloud Points check box, and then click OK.

Load Control Tab

Provides options to set load limit, display limit, dynamic display limit, and computation limit.

Used to set the maximum number of points loaded by CloudWorx. This performance setting is to protect CloudWorx from out of memory. This is related to computer's speed and memory capacity. If the current viewport setting requires more points than the load limit, CloudWorx reduces the level of detail to comply with the limit.

When this command is used while a ModelSpace View is open, it might affect the next Regenerate Point Clouds command only if the loading limit is met. Typical setting for a 2 GHZ+ CPU with 1GB memory is 8 (million). In any case, do not use a setting less than 2.

Load limit - Type a value for the load limit in million points.

Display limit - Type a value for the display limit in million points.

Dynamic display limit - Type a value for the dynamic display limit in million points.

Computation limit - Type a value for the computation limit in million points.

Trouble shooting

  • If Smart 3D appears to slow down, you should check the Windows Task Manager to see if S3DTaskHost.exe is using more memory than the computer can support. If so, you might need to decrease the load limit. When you load huge 3D models into Smart 3D, you need to revisit if your computer is still capable of processing cloud points up to the load limit.
