The next step is to use the Integration and Data Mapping menus to create data mappings.
You can map each EcoSys object to one or more external objects in P6. However, there are some restrictions that limit EcoSys Categories in terms of which objects they can be mapped to in P6. For each Internal Category Type in EcoSys, certain types of P6 data are allowed for mapping.
Internal data sources refer to those within EcoSys, and are selected from the left hand side. External data sources refer to data objects within P6, and are selected on the right. A one-to-one mapping will be created between an EcoSys object and a P6 object to allow the exchange of data. The following table illustrates which external objects can be mapped to the EcoSys internal objects.
Internal EcoSys Object |
P6 Field/Data |
---|---|
Cost Category |
Activity Code, Cost Account, Expense Category, Project Code, Resource Code, Role |
Charge Code |
Activity Code, Cost Account, Expense Category, Resource Code, Role |
Transaction Category |
Activity Code, Cost Account, Role |
Depreciation Model |
Activity Code, Cost Account, Expense Category, Project Code, Resource Code, Role |
Funding Type |
Activity Code, Expense Category, Resource Code, Role, WBS Category |
Phase |
Activity Code, WBS Category |
Cost Object |
Activity Code, Project/WBS |
Resource |
Resource, Role |
In some cases, an additional selection of an Internal or External category is required. This will be the case when an object has been further categorized within the data type. For example, selecting Cost Object as the Internal object within EcoSys requires a further selection by the user of the type of cost object to which the mapping relates.
Likewise with P6 data objects. It may be necessary to select a category within the External Object. In an example like activity codes, there will likely be multiple activity codes to choose from.
If no further level of detail is required after the initial object selection, either for Internal or External objects, the Category list is disabled.
After you have selected the Internal and External objects to map and, if needed, the Internal and External Category, then you can create the one-to-one mapping. Select the specific value of the object and category to map on both sides of the table:
Click Create Map. The new mapping is shown below under Current Mappings. Then, click Save.
-
Mapping is optional. Non-mapped external data is imported and categorized under the default values of each category.
-
Only cost object mappings are required to import Actuals, Forecasts, Dates & Percent Complete. Mappings for other Internal Object types are not required.
