The Incident Categories item on the Configuration menu allows users with the necessary rights to configure the categories and subcategories of incidents that can be recorded in the system (refer to figure Configuring Incident Categories). The configuration takes the form of a hierarchy tree. Additional categories can be created by right clicking on an existing category and choosing Add Sibling. Additional subcategories can be entered by right clicking on an existing category and choosing Add Child, or by right clicking on an existing subcategory and choosing Add Sibling. Categories and subcategories can also be edited and deleted using the right click menu.

Although the hierarchy editor allows multiple levels of incident categories to be configured, only the first two levels should be used, as only those levels are available to select when logging an incident or near miss in the system.
