The Fixed Pipe Length Data file is a look-up table for fixed length pipes. In order for I-Convert to generate fixed pipe lengths from PDS data, you must either use the description or a FixedPipe.txt file. In the Miscellaneous PDS Settings dialog box, if you select Get length from description for fixed pipe length on the Fixed Pipes tab, the software scans the description for the key = and uses the numeric value that follows the equals sign as the tune length. If this method is not selected, the software looks in the Dat folder of the PDS project for a file named FixedPipe.txt.

The FixedPipe.txt file lists the available lengths for various nominal bores. It is important that the bore sizes listed are in the same units as those used in the PCD File and that the lengths specified are in the units as specified by the units settings. For more information, see Layout and content of the PCD file in PDS Technical Information.

  • Nominal Size specifies the pipe nominal size in PCD bore units.

  • Length specifies the available length in the project units.

  • During a default installation of the software, the following sample files are delivered to the I-Convert Samples folder:

    • FixedPipeCI-IN-MM.txt - Cast Iron - diameters in inches, lengths in mm.

    • FixedPipeCI-MM-MM.txt - Cast Iron - diameters in mm, lengths in mm.

    • FixedPipeCSL-IN-MM.txt - Steel lined - diameters in inches, lengths in mm.

    • FixedPipeCSL-MM-MM.txt - Steel lined - diameters in mm, lengths in mm.

  • The Fixed Pipe Length Data file, with a fixed name of FixedPipe.txt, must be located in the Dat folder of the PDS project.

  • You can append the lengths of fixed length pipes and pipe blocks to item codes and descriptions to make them unique. To ensure that item codes for fixed length pipes and pipe blocks are unique, it is sometimes necessary to append the length to their item code.

  • If your specification uses the same commodity code for different lengths of these components, select the Configure miscellaneous PDS settings options to make them unique.

  • A fixed length pipe is defined as a component with an Isogen symbol key of FPFL or FPPL, while a pipe block has an Isogen symbol key of PF or PV.
