You can configure tasks and their associated details in the columns that follow the level columns. The required configuration cells for tasks are the Label and Type columns. When Choice is selected as a task’s Type, the Options List column becomes required for that task too.

The other configuration options allow you to:

  • Order the operator round’s sections in its PDF report (Report Order)

  • Navigate to tasks quickly (Barcode Tag)

  • Sync tasks with parent data and use data in formulas (Identifier)

  • Display the task’s unit of measurement (UoM)

  • Raise attention to abnormal inputs (Control Min and Control Max)

  • Display a message when a flag is raised (Control Flag Message)

  • Disallow input values exceeding the equipment’s possible values (Design Min and Design Max)

  • Specify whether the task is essential for the operator round’s completion (Required)

  • Display a No Reading Available check box (Show No Reading)

  • Automatically copy values from one operator round to the next (Carry-Over)

  • Display read-only data from a tag (Read from Tag Name)

  • Send entered data to a tag (Write to Tag Name)

  • Compare an instrument reading and a tag value (Compare with Tag Name)

  • Raise a flag when the difference between the instrument reading and the tag value is greater than the specified limit (Compare with Tag Delta Limit)

  • Limit the number of decimal places for tag readings (Number Decimal)

  • Display the task’s data history (Trend Days)

  • Show or hide tasks based on other task values (Visibility Condition)

  • Display the task even when its task group has been marked inactive (Always Active)

  • Determines when the associated task appears in the operator round (Schedule)

  • Display the date and time the task was last edited (Show Last Modified)

  • Raise a flag when the difference between the task’s previous value and its current value is greater than the configured limit (Compare with Previous Delta Limit)

The requirements for each task configuration column are as follows:

  • Report Order - Orders the operator round’s section in its PDF report. The sections are ordered in ascending order according to their assigned number. The numbers don’t need to be consecutive.

If the column is left blank or removed, the sections are ordered in the PDF report as they are ordered in the tasks spreadsheet. If sections of the column are left blank, the blank sections appear at the top of the PDF report.

  • Barcode Tag - Determines whether you can navigate to the task by scanning the barcode on its associated equipment item. Enter the equipment’s barcode number in this column.

The follow barcode types are supported on Android, iOS and Windows:

  • QR Code

  • Data Matrix

  • UPC-A

  • UPC-E

  • EAN-8

  • EAN-13

  • Code-39

  • Code-128

  • ITF

  • Identifier - Determines the cell name for each task. If an identifier isn’t defined in the tasks spreadsheet, the j5 software gives the task’s cell a unique name when imported into the j5 Operations Management System or j5 IndustraForm Designer.

Identifiers defined in a tasks spreadsheet are helpful when you want to use the task’s input value in a calculation. When defining identifiers, we recommend that each identifier is an abbreviation of the associated task or is the associated equipment’s identifying code. Cell names cannot have spaces or punctuation marks.

  • Label - Determines the label for each task. These labels should be brief and descriptive so users can quickly identify the data required for the task.

  • Type - Determines what data is accepted for the task and how it is displayed. You can choose the Type for a task from a list.

The following Types are available for each task:

    • Number - Accepts any numbers.

    • Integer - Accepts only whole numbers.

    • Choice - Provides options in a list.

    • Checkbox - Provides a single check box. For example, a check box can be selected to confirm an equipment’s position or status.

    • Checklist Item - Provides option buttons. The option buttons can read Yes, No, N/A (default); Done, Skip; or Yes, No. The checklist item display can only be changed to Done, Skip or Yes, No in the j5 IndustraForm Designer. See Checklist item options for an explanation on how this is done.

    • Text - Provides a text entry box.

    • Rich Text - Provides a text entry box with text formatting options.

    • Date & Time - Allows users to select the date and time from a calendar and clock.

    • Date - Allows users to select the date from a calendar.

    • Attachment - Allows users to attach photos, videos, audio files, and documents.

    • Image - Displays the linked static image.

  • UoM - Displays the task’s associated unit of measurement (UoM). You can select the UoM for a task from a list. If the unit of measurement is not available in the list, see the Edit lists section. You can leave the UoM column blank when a unit of measurement is not applicable for the task type.

  • Control Min and Control Max - Determine the limits of the normal operating values for number and integer type tasks. These values can be manually entered or determined by a formula.

All formulas available in the j5 IndustraForm Designer are accepted in a tasks spreadsheet.

  • Control Flag Message - Displays a message when the j5 software raises a flag. When no message has been configured, the flagged task displays the Control Min and Max values below the input box. When a message is configured, the control values and the message are displayed. The message can be standard text or determined by a formula.

  • Design Min and Design Max - Determine the valid limits of the operating values for number and integer type tasks. The task’s associated equipment item is not capable of creating values beyond these limits. These limits can be determined in the same way as the control min and max values.

  • Required - Determines whether the associated task is required for the operator round’s completion. The required cell for a task can be set to Yes or left blank.

  • Carry-Over - Determines whether entered values are automatically copied from one operator round to the next. The carry-over setting can be Yes, No, or Manual. You can select the carry-over setting for a task from a list. When the carry-over cell for a task is left blank, the entered values are not carried over.

  • Options List - Determines what options populate the choice task lists. This column references option lists on the Choice Options tab. If the choice options you want are not available in the lists, see the Edit lists section.

  • Read from Tag Name - Displays read-only data from a tag. Enter the tag identifier in this column.

  • Write to Tag Name - Sends entered data to a tag. Enter the tag identifier in this column.

If a tag name is entered into both columns for a task, an error dialog will appear when the tasks spreadsheet is uploaded. One of the tag names will need to be removed in order to successfully upload the tasks spreadsheet.

  • Compare with Tag Name - Allows you to compare an instrument reading and a tag value. Enter a tag identifier in this column. This column creates an input box, a read-only display of the tag value, and the date and time display of when the input box was last edited.

  • Compare with Tag Delta Limit - The j5 software raises a flag when the difference between the task’s previous value and its current value is greater than the limit configured in this column. The limit can be manually entered or determined by a formula.

  • Number Decimal - Determines the number of decimal places displayed for the tag readings. Any positive integer can be entered in this column.

  • Trend Days - Determines whether the task’s trend history is displayed. Entered numbers enable the trend display and configure the number of days displayed. A trendline is displayed for number and integer type tasks. All task types with the trend enabled have a trend table in the task’s info screen.

  • Visibility Condition - Shows or hides the associated task based on another task’s value. The condition setting for a task should be a formula.

  • Always Active - Determines whether a task is always displayed even when its task group has been made inactive. The Always Active setting can be Yes or left blank.

  • Schedule - Determines when the associated task appears in the operator round. For example, when tasks only need to be completed on certain days in a week or dates in a month, they can be scheduled to only appear in the operator round when they need to be completed. Multiple schedules can be applied to a task. Schedule examples are given on the Schedule Examples tab.

  • Show Last Modified - Display the date and time (read-only) of when the task was last edited. To enable the display, enter y.

  • Compare with Previous Delta Limit - The j5 software raises a flag when the difference between the task’s previous value and its current value is greater than the limit configured. The delta limit can be a number or a percentage. The limit can be manually entered or determined by a formula.
