Controls the format and type of model that the software generates. The Drawing tab also enables you to specify an optional configuration file.

Model Format

Specifies the model output format. Select AutoCAD, MicroStation, or SmartPlant Review.

  • AutoCAD produces DWG output. This is the default setting. For information about compatible versions of AutoCAD, see Output File Version in AutoCAD tab.

  • MicroStation produces DGN output that is compatible with the versions listed below:

    • MicroStation 95

    • MicroStation SE (v5)

    • MicroStation Powerdraft v7 and later

    • MicroStation J (v7)

    • MicroStation v8 and later

  • SmartPlant Review produces DGN, DRI, and DRV file outputs that are compatible with SmartPlant Review 5.0 and later.

  • Currently, SmartPlant Review 5.1 only supports MicroStation SE 05.07.01.15 and MicroStation/J 07.01.01.57 files and AutoCAD files through version 14 and AutoCAD 2002.

  • For DGN output, I-View CAD uses proprietary software routines provided as part of MicroStation. To use produce and view model output, I-View CAD requires that you have at least one version of MicroStation installed on your computer.

  • For DWG output, I-View CAD uses OpenDWG. To view DWG files, you must have a supported version of AutoCAD installed on your computer.

  • NavisWorks JetStream 4.3 and later supports direct import of DWG and DGN files (including attribute data) generated by I-View CAD.

Model Type

Specifies how the software displays the 3D representation of the pipeline (or collection of pipelines).

  • Solid displays the pipeline model as a geometric graphic. This is the default setting.

  • Symbolic displays the pipeline model using isometric-style symbols.

You must use a configuration file and symbols file to produce symbolic output. For more information, see the Symbols section in Appendix: XML Configuration File Format.

Use configuration to define level, colour, and OD data

Enables you to reference a configuration file for I-View CAD to use during model generation. The configuration file provides additional control over the model output. Using a configuration file enables you to override default behaviors to do any of the following:

  • Specify a symbols file to control symbolic model type output.

  • Assign pipe outside diameter (OD), flange OD, and flange thickness.

  • Control component layer, level, and color. By default, the software does not assign layer or level values. For AutoCAD output, the software places objects on the default layer. For MicroStation output, the software sets levels based on the object color.

Unless you specify otherwise in the referenced configuration file, the software uses the default color values listed below for model objects.
