Sets options to test graphic inputs of symbols. Graphic inputs are lines, arcs, circles, and so forth that are connected to the symbol's representation by relationships. When you modify these graphic inputs, the symbol's representation is also modified. For example, a cutout symbol around a beam that uses the geometry of the beam as graphic inputs changes if the beam changes.

Geometry Type - Displays the name of the type of element that makes up the graphic inputs. Usually it is a set of lines, arcs, circles, and so forth that have been added to a group.

Move by rotation - Specifies that the graphic inputs are modified by rotation.

Move by value - Specifies that the graphic inputs are modified by a move.

Rescale - Specifies that the graphic inputs are modified by applying a scale.

Rotation Angle - Specifies the value of the angle to use when modifying the inputs by rotation.

Recalculation type - The relationship system allows two types of recalculation. Minimum move, where the software attempts to move the smallest number of graphics to get a solution, and maximum move, where the software moves all geometry until a solution is found. Usually both techniques give the same results. A different result may indicate a potential problem for placement in the 3D environment.

Display relationship assistant - Select to activate the Relationship Assistant dialog box when the system detects a conflict between two related elements in the symbol. An example of a conflict might be when a line has a tangent relationship with a curve but a driving dimension on the line moves the line away from the curve. The tangent relationship can no longer be maintained.

Selecting a listed element in the Relationship Assistant dialog box displays what relationships are acting on that element and the state of the relationship at the time of the error. The common status codes that you are likely to see include:

  • D_UNKNOWN - The dimension has been added after the last evaluation.

  • D_OVER_DEFINED - The dimension has not been solved because it conflicts with one or more other dimensions. Over defined dimensions occur in "loops" where all of the dimensions in a loop conflict with each other. Over defined dimensions can also occur when there are too many fixed geometries.

  • D_NON_ALGEBRAIC - The dimension has not been solved, but the software has identified that it could be solved using non-algebraic methods. This may be supported at a later date, but for now it is recommended that you remove the constraints and try another set of relationships.

  • D_NOT_CONSISTENT - The software cannot find a consistent solution for the dimension. This status is also used to mark constraints between frozen geometry if they are not satisfied by the geometry positions.

  • D_NOT_CHANGED - Dimensions between two fixed, or between one fixed and one frozen geometry, are given the status code D_NOT_CHANGED. Similarly, dimensions between two free or one free and one fixed geometry in the same set are ignored by the software and are given the status code D_NOT_CHANGED. In addition, if the software has found parts of the model are non- algebraic, over defined, or not-consistent then a dimension that depends on the problem area is not recalculated and is marked D_NOT_CHANGED.

  • D_SOLVED - The dimension has been solved and is satisfied by the position of its associated geometries.
