You need to have an SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server available for j5. This server must be able to accept emails from j5, and send emails to all required addresses, including any external addresses (for example, systemnotifications@example.com).

  • Disable Email: When this checkbox is selected, the j5 email functionality is disabled. When disabled, any error information normally sent via email is only recorded in the j5 log files.

  • Use built-in test server (not for production): This can only be used for the Staging and Development installation types. When this check box is selected, the built-in test server is used and the other email settings aren't required.

  • SMTP Server: The mail server j5 will connect to.

  • Address j5 Sends From: The email address that appears in the From: field on emails (for example, ourj5system@ourcompany.net).

  • Name j5 Sends From: The name which emails from j5 appear to be from.

  • Administrator Email: The email address j5 sends emails to when it encounters an error. Multiple email addresses can be provided, separated by a semicolon (;).

  • Automatically Email on Errors: When this check box is selected, j5 will email the details of any errors that occur to the administrator. This check box is selected by default.

  • Character Set to Use: The character set used to encode emails from j5. The default is UTF8.

  • Email Recipient Override: This field is required for the Staging and Development installation types. All emails sent by j5 will go to this address; j5 emails are sent to this email address rather than the specified recipients. This ensures that the emails aren’t sent to the recipients (for example, the production users) from the testing environments.

  • Use TLS to Connect to SMTP: Select this check box to use TLS (Transport Layer Security) to connect to the SMTP server. When this check box is selected, the TLS User and TLS Password boxes appear.

    • TLS User: The username for SMTP authentication. If this is left blank, j5 will not attempt authentication.

    • TLS Password: The password used for SMTP authentication.
