To ensure the security of the information stored within the j5 system, it's necessary that the user passwords are secure. For this reason, the j5 system has the following default password policy:

  • The user passwords are expected to meet the password complexity requirements configured in the j5 system. This ensures that the passwords are strong and secure. If a password doesn't meet the password complexity requirements, j5 provides suggestions to strengthen the password.

  • The user passwords expire after 365 days.

    • If your password is nearing expiration, the following warning appears when you sign in: "Your password will expire in X days time, please change it now to avoid being locked out." Refer to j5 User preferences for more information.

    • If your password has already expired. it needs to be reset by an j5 Administrator.

  • After five incorrect sign in attempts, the user account is locked out of the j5 system.

The j5 system logic for the incorrect password attempts only works when the DBAuthenticator is activated. Refer to Password policy settings (DBAuth) for more information.
