Video: j5 Operational Areas - concept video

In an industrial plant setting, it is often necessary to define a number of different operational areas. Each of these areas may each have a separate workforce, its own equipment, and carry out a different part of the plant processes. While they may be defined according to geographic locations, it is also common for the distinctions to be made according to the different functional areas of plant operations. The need exists to define both large areas or functions of the plant, as well as specify a piece of equipment that can be found at an exact location.

In j5, these distinctions are defined by the different levels of a hierarchical structure, and are collectively referred to as Operational Areas.

Your assigned user rights group governs what applications you can see and what actions you can perform in each application. Your assigned operational areas govern what entries you can see in each application. You can only add entries to your assigned operational areas, and you can only see the entries that were added to your operational areas (see Operational area selection).

In general, the Unit level is used to specify set pieces of machinery or equipment. However, in some cases, an additional level of detail may be required to define the location of specific assets. The j5 Asset Register provides this additional level. You can assign an asset to an entry using the Equipment selector.
