To add a new combination tag to the Tag Watch List:

  1. Select Add ADDicon. The Adding window opens.

    Combination tag

  2. Enter the tag's details:

    • Tag - Enter a name for the tag. This name needs to be unique in the j5 Event Manager application. The name can remain unchanged even if the underlying data source or process tag names change.

    • Variable Type - Select Combination from the list.

    • Description - Enter a description for the tags.

    • Site, Section, Area, Unit - Select the operational area information for where the tags are positioned.

    • General Distribution List/s For Raised Events - An email is sent to the distribution list members when an event is triggered. Refer to Create a new j5 Distribution list for information on how to configure distribution lists.

When a Target Form is selected, only one email is sent per target form entry, because combination tags only have one alarm state (a combination tag is either in its alarm state or it's not).

    • Calculation Interval - Determines how often the formula calculation is performed.

  3. In the Formula box, enter a boolean formula of the tags you want to monitor by combining tag identifiers with AND and OR operators. Note the following:

    • All of the tags entered need to be already monitored in the Tag Watch List (added and monitoring enabled).

    • The tag identifiers are the tag names given when they were added to the Tag Watch List.

    • When AND is used in the formula, all of the tags need to be in an alarm state for the combination tag to trigger an event.

    • When OR is used in the formula, when one tag is in an alarm state, the combination tag triggers an event.

    Example formulas

    • Temp205.standard_low AND Unit26State.Active - This will create an event when the continuous tag Temp205 is outside standard_low AND the Unit26State discrete tag has the Active value.

    • Feeder1.Blocked OR Feeder2.Blocked OR Feeder3.Blocked - This will create an event when any of these discrete tags have a value of Blocked.

  4. If aggregate event information is required in another application, select the relevant application from the Target Form list.

  5. If a Target Form is selected, enter the Aggregate Period (minutes). This determines how long the events will be grouped together (one entry) in the target form. If there is another event after the aggregate period has expired, a new entry is created in the target form and the aggregate period is started again.

  6. Select Save SAVEicon

When you want to start monitoring the combination tag:

  1. Select Edit EDITicon

  2. Select Enabled from the Monitoring Enabled? list.
