When using SmartPlant Markup Plus versions 2019 SP 1 or prior, SmartPlant Markup Plus Server is required for integrating SmartPlant Markup Plus with SmartPlant Foundation and with the Web Client, a component of SmartPlant Foundation. The following hardware recommendations and software requirements should be installed before installing SmartPlant Markup Plus Server.

Minimum hardware requirements

  • 4 core 3 GHz processor

  • 20 GB RAM

  • 4 GB free disk space for software installation (plus an additional 1.5 GB free disk space on the drive where the TEMP folder is located and an additional 5 GB of temporary disk space on drive C for processing files)

  • DVD drive access, either locally or through a network connection

  • 1000 BaseT or higher network interface

Hardware sizing, especially for servers, depends on many factors such as the number of users per site and the size of the project, and other software that is running on the machine.

Additional hardware recommendations for file viewing

  • 500 MB free disk space for the %temp% folder locations of the user account running the Brava! Job Processor service (PDF generation, thumbnail)

    If you are using a version prior to SmartPlant Markup Plus 2019 Service Pack 1, the job processor service is called Blazon Job Processor.

  • 15 to 60 GB free disk space on drive C to cache non-Hexagon files for viewing in the web clients

  • 5 GB of temporary disk space on drive C to process Microsoft office files for viewing

SmartPlant Markup Plus 2019 Service Pack 1

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Standard or Enterprise editions

    • The Web Server (IIS) role must be installed on the server with the ASP.NET 4.x role service installed.

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard or Enterprise edition

    • The Web Server (IIS) role must be installed on the server with the ASP.NET 4.x role service installed.

SmartPlant Markup Plus 2019

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard or Enterprise edition

    • The Web Server (IIS) role must be installed on the server with the ASP.NET 4.x role service installed.

Software prerequisites

SmartPlant Markup Plus 2019 Service Pack 1

  • Requires Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 or later

  • Required for Brava! Enterprise Server: Apache Tomcat 9.x (64-bit), with a minimum supported version of 9.0.62

    The account running the Apache Tomcat service requires access to the Brava! Enterprise log files. File viewing in the Web Client fails if Apache Tomcat cannot access these log files. For more information, see Verify that Apache Tomcat can access Brava! log files (retired).

  • Required for Brava! Enterprise Server: Java Runtime Environment 8 (64-bit), Oracle JDK, OpenJDK 11, or OpenJDK 13

    If you install OpenJDK 13, you must meet these OpenJDK 13 requirements (retired).

  • Requires Microsoft Office 2019 (64-bit), Office 2016 (64-bit) or Office 365 (required to perform the View and Markup command on Microsoft Office file formats in the SmartPlant Foundation Desktop Client, SmartPlant Foundation Web Client, and HxGN SDx)

    For example, to view Microsoft files, such as Office or Visio files, in Intergraph FreeView using SmartPlant Markup Plus, the native application must be installed on the same machine as SmartPlant Markup Plus Server.

    The appropriate Microsoft Office license is required for SmartPlant Markup Plus Server implementation.

  • Required for Brava! Enterprise Server: Apache Tomcat 8.5.x (64-bit), with a minimum supported version of 8.5.78

  • Required for Brava! Enterprise Server: Java Runtime Environment 7 or 8 (64-bit)

  • Requires Microsoft Office 2013 or 2016 (64-bit) (required to perform the View and Markup command on Microsoft Office file formats in the SmartPlant Foundation Desktop Client, SmartPlant Foundation Web Client, and HxGN SDx)

    For example, to view Microsoft files, such as Office or Visio files, in Intergraph FreeView using SmartPlant Markup Plus, the native application must be installed on the same machine as SmartPlant Markup Plus Server.
