The Select Element command allows you to activate the Select Element mode. In Select Element mode, you can select one or more elements of the active layer for manipulation with the Move Element, Copy Element, and Delete Element commands. You can select individual elements only if they are in the active layer. This command is also available from the Markup menu.
To select one element:
Once you have activated the Select Element mode, you can select an element by clicking it or by clicking and dragging to draw a box around the element.
To select multiple elements:
Click and drag to draw a fence around all the elements you want to include, or holding the CTRL key, click all the elements you want to select.

While in the Select Element mode, elements are highlighted as the mouse passes over them.

This command is available only when a markup layer is displayed and contains at least one markup element.

If you want to remove an item from a selected set of elements, hold the CTRL key, and click the selected item. It is removed from the selected set.

If one or more markup layers are active in the current view, Select Element is the default mode.
