  1. Install the Oracle 12c 64-bit client to the same folder that contains the 32-bit client installation.

    You should see in the Oracle folder two folders.

    Oracle folders

    Two Oracle clients installed on the same machine can cause problems in the Windows Start menu for Oracle client sources such as Net Manager, and possible prevent them from running.

    If a problem occurs you should in your Oracle_folder\product\12.1.0\client_1\network\admin, locate the tnsnames.ora and for each client create a service name as follows:

    ‘SERVICE_NAME’ =

    (DESCRIPTION =

    (ADDRESS_LIST =

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=’SERVER NAME’)(PORT = 1522))

    )

    (CONNECT_DATA =

    (SERVICE_NAME = ‘DATABASE)

    )

    )

  2. Install SmartPlant Instrumentation 2016 on your local machine.

  3. Locate and open the root folder where you have installed SmartPlant Instrumentation 2016.

  4. Copy the intools.ini file to the folder Upgrade64.

    The intools.ini file should be configured to the previous SmartPlant Instrumentation database version (09.00.02.0176 or higher).

  5. In the Upgrade64 folder, run the Upgrade.exe.

If your source database was Oracle 12c the upgrade is now complete and there is no need to run initialize process. If your source database was Oracle 10g or 11g then after you have completed the SmartPlant Instrumentation 2016 upgrade you should also run the initialize process.

  • When using the Windows 10 operating system, you should be aware that the OS stores a copy of the product .ini file (only if the .ini file is read only) in the following location: C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\SmartPlant\<product folder>\.ini, as well as in the SmartPlant root folder. If you need to delete the .ini file or create a new .ini file, you must delete it from both of these folders. Deleting it just from the SmartPlant folder means that login to the product is still possible using outdated information.

  • Due to security changes in Windows 10, users who require access to INIT/Backup, upgrade, import, and Administration functions, must have windows administrative privileges for this functionality to work correctly.
