SmartPlant Instrumentation 2016 supports Oracle 12c; therefore if you have an earlier version of Oracle, you must upgrade that version to Oracle 12c.
-
As a prerequisite for upgrading to Oracle 12c, you must already have an earlier version of Oracle installed.
-
Oracle users, when upgrading from SmartPlant Instrumentation 2016 SP1 to SmartPlant Instrumentation 2018 must have both Oracle server 64-bit and Oracle client 64-bit installed as well as the 32-bit Oracle client. This is because certain functions such as backup and upgrade now use 64-bit client database components, while the 32-bit client is required for running SmartPlant Instrumentation.
-
Every sub-contractor must use SmartPlant Instrumentation in the national environment of your Oracle client to ensure that units of measure are displayed correctly in the upgraded version of SmartPlant Instrumentation. For more information, contact Customer Support.
The following alternative workflows are available for upgrading:
-
For installation of a new Oracle server on a separate machine from the previous Oracle server installation, see Smart Instrumentation Upgrade on Oracle - Workflow 1 (see SmartPlant Instrumentation Upgrade on Oracle - Workflow 1)
-
For upgrade of Oracle on an existing server without new instance creation or domain initialization, see Smart Instrumentation Upgrade on Oracle - Workflow 2 (see SmartPlant Instrumentation Upgrade on Oracle - Workflow 2)
