The following procedure describes how to back up your database on the same or another server. All the tasks are performed using the Oracle Export utility that writes data from a source database into an operating system file in binary format. This file is stored outside the database, and it can be read into another Oracle database using the Oracle Import utility.

You cannot include the existing user-defined database views in your database backup. To be able to use these views, you must make a separate backup of all your user-defined database views before backing up your database. Then, after restoring the database, you need to re-create the user-defined views using InfoMaker or the database utilities of your platform.
