  1. In the toolbar, select Search.

  2. In the Search Menu, select the data type, and select the search type.

For example, select Documents as the data type, and select All Documents as the search type.

  3. In the Search Bar , type any defining criteria, parameters, or wildcards, and select Search .

You can control the default criteria that appears in the search bar for each object type selected in the Search menu. For more information, see Configure the default search bar criteria.

How can I improve my search?

You can improve your search by:

  • Selecting FILTER on the Search menu so you can refine the search to a targeted set of objects. You can change the search filters by selecting other column set items from the list.

  • Selecting a property or relationship as a filter, and entering a wildcard (*) will only return the objects which have the column set item (property or relationship) instantiated.

  • Using the search operator Is equal to instead of the default search operator Contains. The Is equal to operator returns more targeted searches for data that is an exact match and helps improve search performance each time you search.

  • Changing the default search filters to other items available in the objects column set, such as Description or Classification, so they are preselected each time you search. The default search filter is Name.

  • Selecting Advanced search to create complex search queries using multiple options and parameters to return a targeted set of objects.

What is an advanced search?

You can create complex search queries using Advanced Search to return a targeted set of objects. Each query can be saved and run with multiple options and parameters depending on the object type. For more information, see Use the Advanced search.

  • The search results are displayed in a results grid. For more information, see View search results.

  • As you type in the search bar, a peek search returns examples and the number of objects that match the typed characters. You can configure the number of characters that must be typed before a peek search request is invoked. For more information, see Configure peek search request value.

  • If your system has been configured to use Full Text Retrieval (FTR), you can select the Full Text Search option to search for objects using the managed index. For more information, see Full text search option.
