Problem

Failed or abandoned files can be left behind on the upload file temporary directories, such as when the browser is closed or a network interruption occurs during the upload of files in the Web Client. These files can take up valuable server disk space, which can reduce performance and cause the system to run out of disk space.

Solution

The system is configured to remove files from the temporary directory locations using the DaysBeforeCleanup site setting in Server Manager. You can use this setting to clean up the temporary file locations more frequently than the default of 7 days. Files are deleted from the following directories:

  • ServerUploadFileDirectory - where uploaded files are stored before any subsequent action in the Web Client.

  • ServerSafeFileDirectory - where uploaded files are stored when an in-line virus scanning application has been configured for the Web Client server site.

  • QuarantinedDirectories - where quarantined files are stored before any out-of-process virus scanning takes place.

  • SubmissionsShareDirectory - where uploaded files are stored that are required for submittal/loader job executions in Data Validator.

  • For more information on the DaysBeforeCleanUp file service site setting, see File Service Settings node properties in Server Manager.

  • If any submittal/loader jobs are awaiting approval by a user later than the value specified by DaysBeforeCleanUp setting, a file not found error may occur during the export stage. This is because the files have been removed from the SubmissionsShareDirectory.
