You only need to perform this procedure if you have disabled the Keep Sites During Uninstall option in Server Manager, or if you are transferring your sites from one server to another, or if you need to rebuild the underlying server operating system and cannot keep files on the server.

  1. In Server Manager, select the main SmartPlant Foundation Server Manager node and click File > Export Configuration.

  2. Select a file name and location where the configuration file is to be saved and click Save.

  3. Repeat this procedure for each site on your server, including your license server site, file service site, and Web Client sites.

  4. Save the export files to a known location from which you can import them when the new version of the software is installed.

For more detailed information on exporting site configurations, see Export a configuration.

  • When you export a configuration, if you will be importing this configuration to another version of SmartPlant Foundation, you must edit the configuration file to modify the path locations to match the new version's server location. For example, you might need to change the paths to remove the version/year from the path, since that folder no longer appears in new installations of the software.

  • To preserve the server/site pairings that users can select when logging on to the SmartPlant Foundation Desktop Client, you must also backup a copy of your Desktop Client configuration file (Desktop_Client.exe.config) on each client before uninstalling the software. By default, this file is located at [drive]:\Program Files (x86)\SmartPlant\Foundation\SPFDesktopClient\CurrentVersion.

When the new version of the software is installed, all sites detected by the installer are automatically exported to a file named SPFSites.config in the %TEMP% directory.
