What's the difference between query scope and create scope?

Query scope determines the configurations in which you want to search for data. Create scope determines the configuration in which you can create and update objects.

You can select any number of configurations to query against, but you can only select one configuration to be your create scope.

When should I set my active configuration by role?

Setting the configuration by role is useful if your site contains a large number of configurations in which you have different roles. When you set the active configuration by roles, the available query scopes are filtered by the selected roles.

Which roles do I have access to?

The list of roles contains all of the roles to which you have access. As you select roles, the list of available configurations changes to show all of the configurations in which you have any of the selected roles.

  1. Click File > Set Active Scope.

  2. In the Set Active Scope dialog box, select Set active configuration by roles.

  3. Select one or more roles from the Selected roles list.

The roles in the list are all of the roles available to you. Your role selection determines the configurations that are available in the Query scope list.

    • You can filter your query scope list by selecting a status in the Status filter box. Only the configurations with a matching status appear in the list.

    • By default, when you query a project, you see what is in the project and the plant it belongs to. You can use the Query by selected configurations only option to restrict queries to only the selected configurations and not higher configurations. For example, if you select Project1 in PlantA with this option selected, the queries return only data from Project1, not from PlantA.

  4. Under Create scope, select the plant or project in which you want to create and modify objects.

    • You can select only one plant or project for the create scope.

    • To set the create scope for the top-level configuration, select the Scope Not Set option. System administrators can use this setting for creating configuration-independent items, such as administration items.
