To be able to create a report for an object type, that object type must already be configured as a Quick Find item in the Desktop Client. In SmartPlant Report Administration, those Quick Find items are listed as the example object types you choose from when creating a report definition.

However, the list of example object types that appear in SmartPlant Report Administration might be different than the list of Quick Find items that appear on the Desktop Client toolbar. You might notice these differences:

  • The display name for an object in the list of Quick Find items is different than its display name in the list of example object types - The display name is the SPFGUIDisplayAs property for the GUI item related to the method by the SPFGUIAccessControlMethod relationship. If the SPFGUIDisplayAs property is not configured, the display name is the Quick Find item description, name, or UID, in that order.

  • An object that appears in the list of Quick Find items does not appear in the list of example object types - If more than one Quick Find item has been configured for the same object type, the object type will appear in the list of Quick Find items multiple times. However, the object type will appear only once in the list of example object types, and it will be the first one found.

  • An object that appears in the list of example object types does not appear in the list of Quick Find items - If there are no GUI items related to the method by the SPFGUIAccessControlMethod relationship, the object type does not actually appear in the list of Quick Find items. However, in SmartPlant Report Administration the method itself is listed as an example object.

  • In SmartPlant Report Administration, the list of example objects appears on the Search pane of the Create a New Report Definition dialog box in the Example object box.

  • For more information about configuring an object as a Quick Find item and setting the object display name, see Add a new item to the Quick Find menu.

  • For help with creating a report definition in SmartPlant Report Administration, see Create a report definition.
