It is essential throughout the plant life cycle that tag numbers are consistently and accurately allocated in accordance with the plant’s Engineering Number System (ENS). Design properties in tag indexes must also be captured and maintained. Managing tag number allocations during major development projects can be especially onerous and errors can be very costly to rectify, if practicable at all.
SPO/E Core uses Central Tag Allocation and enables the system to be the central place for creating and managing tags.
Central Tag Allocation
The TAG information in SPO/E Core provides the centralized allocation of tag numbers in SmartPlant Foundation, in accordance with a pre-defined Engineering Numbering System (ENS), the maintenance of tag data, and the publishing of tag details (as supported by existing SmartPlant adapters) to SmartPlant Enterprise design tools.
The central allocation mechanism accommodates legacy data and uses this data when allocating new tag numbers.
The Central Tag Allocation (CTA) system works with the Work Breakdown System, especially with work package objects.
A work package object is a container for published tags which holds a bunch of tags. It also handles republishing of tags.

CTA is a configurable feature.
