What are authored document proxies?

Authored document proxies are document objects associated with a tag that can be technical specification documents, drawings, commercial detail documents, warranty documents, and so on. You can create authored document proxies and associate them with a tag to organize and manage tag data in a plant.

When you create tags, you can create document proxies in Microsoft Excel. You can also create authored document proxies using the standard dialog box in SmartPlant Master Tag Registry and associate to a tag.

  1. Click File > New > MTR > Authored Document Proxy.

  2. In the New Authored Document Proxy dialog box, type a name and description for the new authored document proxy in the Name and Description boxes respectively.

  3. Select the type of document that you want to associate to a tag.

  4. Click Finish.

  5. Click Find > MTR > Authored Tags to search for the tags that you want to associate with authored document proxies.

  6. Drag one or more tags to the authored document proxy in the New Items window.

  • You can also search for document proxies and drag them onto a tag.

  • You can configure your own document number format for document proxies. Create an ENS definition for the authored document proxy and associate it with the MTRAuthDocProxy class definition. For more information on creating an ENS definition and its relationship with class definition, see How to Configure Classification Trees and Classified Objects.

  • You can update an authored document proxy by finding the document proxies in the MTRAuthoring domain, right-click and click Update.

  • You can edit authored document proxies associated with tags using the Microsoft Excel data sheet as well as in the List Edit dialog box. You can change the existing authored document proxy for any tag. In case of a Microsoft Excel data sheet, you must import the data sheet with changes into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry. The system creates a new authored document proxy and associates it to the tag. As a result, multiple authored document proxies of the same type are associated to the tag. However, the generated data sheet does not support displaying multiple values for related objects. You must terminate the relationship between the tag and its authored document proxy that is no longer required. To terminate relationship, see Terminate authored tag relationships.

  • In this example, you have a PID Drawing authored document proxy, and the value, PID1, is associated with a tag. You want to associate PID2 with that tag, then change the value to PID2 in the Microsoft Excel datasheet and import the datasheet into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry. After importing, you must terminate the relationship between the tag and PID1.
