To provide additional information for a tag, such as the type of document with which it is associated, asset information, and hierarchical enumerated lists used by attributes of the tag, refer to the information in the following sections:
Documents
If you want to associate a document to a tag through a Microsoft Excel data sheet, you must select a value for the Document Type property and enter a value for the Document Number property. When you import the data, if the document attribute values you provided are not available in the SmartPlant Master Tag Registry, a new document is created and is associated to that tag. If the document attribute values are available in the SmartPlant Master Tag Registry, a relationship with the existing document is created for that tag. The value provided for the Document Number property will be used as the name of the document.
For example, if you want to create an Equipment Datasheet document to associate with your new tag, you must select a value from the list box for Equipment Datasheet Type and enter a value for the Datasheet Number.

You can associate a document to multiple tags.

Either both related property values must be blank or both must contain data, otherwise you cannot import the data sheet.

For the document type property, the column header indicates which document type you should select from the list. For example, if the column header is PO Type, you must select PO from the list box for that property.
To create documents of the following types and associate them to a tag using a data sheet, you must provide values for the corresponding attributes, such as document type and document number. These document types are provided with the software in the data list.

Asset information
An asset is one of the objects that has relationship with a tag. An asset represents what is purchased and assembled to construct a plant. If you want to associate an asset to a tag through a Microsoft Excel data sheet, you must provide a value for the Asset Name property. When you import the data, a new asset is created in the SmartPlant Master Tag Registry and is associated to that tag. The value provided for the Asset Name property will be the name of the newly created asset.
Other attributes in the data sheet also describe the asset, such as the following:

An asset can be related to only one tag.

In a data sheet generated with tags that are already associated with assets, if you change the existing asset name for any tag and import the data sheet into SmartPlant Master Tag Registry, a new asset is created and associated to the tag. As a result, multiple assets are associated to the tag. You cannot edit the asset details of tags associated to multiple assets using a data sheet.
If you want to modify asset details for the tag, you must first terminate the relationship between the tag and the asset that is no longer required. Then you can generate a data sheet for the tag or tags, and edit the asset details. If you provide a value for Asset Name property, you must also provide the appropriate value for the Asset Classification property. Otherwise, you will not be able to import the data for that tag.

When you create a new row in the data sheet, the Asset Classification property value is Material types, by default. Do not change or remove that value, or you will not be able to import the data for that tag.

If the data sheet is generated with tags and those tags are not associated with any asset, the Asset Classification property is blank. So, if you want to associate that tag to an asset, you must set the value to Material types manually, and provide a value for the Asset Name property, or you will not be able to import the data for that tag.
Cable run information
A cable run is one of the objects that has relationship with a cable tag. Cable run is used to interconnect the electrical equipment in a plant. If you want to associate a cable run to a cable tag through a Microsoft Excel data sheet, you must provide a value for the Cable Run property. When you import the data, a new cable run is created in the SmartPlant Master Tag Registry and is associated to that cable tag.

Hierarchical enumerated list
The data sheet may contain properties that have hierarchical enumerated lists, meaning that the value you select for one property will determine the option available for another property.
For example, in the Instrument data sheet, the value you select for the Instrument Process Function property determines the values available for the Instrument Type property. If you select Flow Instrument as the value for the Instrument Process Function, then you must select the corresponding Instrument Type.
If a selected value for one property is available in multiple cells (in that column), then its dependent property values can be dragged to the preceding rows in the dependent property column. .
For example, in the following instrument datasheet, Flow Instrument is selected as the property in the Instrument Process Function column, and FE is selected as the dependent value for Flow Instrument in the Instrument Type column. If you want the dependent property value FE in other appropriate cells, you can drag the value FE onto the preceding cells in that column. Then the value FE is displayed in the cells next to the value wherever Flow Instrument is available.
