Right-click the grouping object you want to use to merge items structured by a grouping object, for example, commissioning unit, commissioning system, or area.

  1. Click Concurrent Engineering > Merge on the shortcut menu.

  2. Click OK on the message to perform the merge. A dialog box confirms the successful merge.

For more information on configuring the merge by grouping object, see Configuring merge by grouping.

  • The grouping object can be located in the tree view, a list view, or in the New Items window.

  • If a merge by grouping object operation fails validation, all objects that have produced an error are listed in the Merge Structure Exception Report. Any items with unresolved conflicts can be addressed through the list created by selecting Get Conflicts. Any items that require independent merging due to being removed from the selected structure can be addressed through the list created by selecting Get Moved Items.

  • Merge by grouping object can use only one grouping object at a time to merge each specific structured data set. For more information on configuring the merge by grouping object, see Configuring merge by grouping.

  • Administrators can configure the text to use on shortcut menus for merge by grouping object to meet their own requirements. For more information, see the How to Configure Concurrent Engineering.

  • Before you use the merge by a grouping object action, you can generate a Mergeable Item Summary to list all the items selected using the grouping object to display items that are ready to be merged up to a higher configuration or plant. For more information on the mergeable item summary, see Mergeable items summary.

  • On completion of a merge by grouping object, ensure that you refresh all views of the merged items, so that the current data is displayed in context.

  • You can configure the Desktop Client to display a Merge Progress Notification, so you can review statistics on the progress of a merge by grouping object action. The Merge Progress Notification is useful when you are merging a large dataset of grouped items. For more information, see Generate a merge structure exception report.
