Any items that fail to merge successfully are directly related to the merge progress notification item, if one exists, for easy identification. This relationship is defined using the SPFMergeFailedItems relation definition.

When an item fails to merge, an error is raised and appended to a text based logging file. The information is logged to allow cross-referencing from the failed item related to the merge progress notification item, to the errors logged in the file. Once the merge process is complete, the generated log file is attached directly to the merge progress notification item for easy access, and vaulted in the SmartPlant Foundation vault.

The logging text file is initially located in the user’s temp directory on the server and is attached to the merge progress notification item at the end of the merge process. The name of the text based logging file is comprised of the following values:

  • The name of the user who started the merge action

  • The date and time that the merge action was started

  • The name of the configuration or project that is being merged

For example, superuser-04-14-2014-12:44:30-Project10.txt.
