When a configuration already exists with the role assignments you want for your new configuration, you can use a copy operation rather than create the configuration and assign roles separately. The following steps illustrate how to copy a configuration along with all its role assignments.

To create a sub-project in the Desktop Client, edit the applicable form (create or copy) for the configuration item to remove the read-only restriction on the display item with the relationship to the higher configuration. Additionally, you must make the now editable display item mandatory. Once the display item is editable, you can use it on the form to select a project to which to copy the new sub-project.

  1. If creating a new project or lower configuration, set your create scope to the plant beneath which you want to place the new project or lower configuration.

  2. Find the configuration you want to copy in the tree window, and right-click it. From the shortcut menu, click Copy Project with Permissions to open the Copy with Permissions dialog box.

SHARED Tip If you are copying a plant, rather than a project or lower configuration, click Copy Plant with Permissions.

  3. Type a name and description for the new configuration.

  4. Set the configuration status to Active to make it immediately available for new work or to Created to prevent it from being used immediately.

    • If you are creating a new plant, it will be created under Configuration Top automatically.

    • If you are creating a project, the plant to which your create scope is set should appear by the Configuration Top label, indicating that the project will be created under that plant.

    • Validation is in place to ensure that plants are created at Configuration Top, projects are copied only under a plant, sub-projects are copied only under projects, and so on. Additionally, this validation limits the copy of sub-projects to the same plant as the original.

  5. Click Finish to create the new configuration and apply to it all the role assignments that exist for the configuration from which you made the copy.
