The Role Assignments tab is used to create, copy, and delete role assignments. You must first select a set of configurations, roles, and users before you can select this tab.

Choose the view of the role assignments

There are three possible views of the three-dimensional role assignments data:

Select

To display

Configuration

The list of configurations on the left and a matrix of users against roles. When you select a configuration, you can see the users assigned to roles within that configuration.

Role

The list of roles on the left and a matrix of users against configurations. When you select a role, you can see which users are assigned to which configurations for that role.

User

The list of users on the left and a matrix of roles against configurations. When you select a user, you can see the role assignments for that user.

Create or remove a role assignment

The cells have three states, and repeated selection steps through the following settings:

Cell appearance

Description

Denotes no role assignment

Denotes a role assignment to that configuration only.

Denotes a role assignment to that configuration with inheritance to all its sub configurations.

For example, the Key tab displays this usage:

An assignment with Include in Sub-Configs is one that is dynamically inherited by all the sub configurations. For example, an assignment at a plant can be automatically inherited to all its projects.

Create and remove multiple role assignments

Click Set All True to make the assignments in all cells displayed. This is very useful if the initial selection on the Administration tab is carefully used. For example, you can use the Set All True button to add a set of new users to a role in a project.

In a similar way, click Set All True with Include in Sub-Config to make assignments that inherit to all the sub configurations in all the cells displayed.

Click Clear All to remove the assignments in all cells displayed. This is very useful if the initial selection on the Administration tab is carefully used. For example, you can use Clear All to remove a set of users from all their role assignments in a set of projects.

Copy role assignments

Role assignments can be copied from one item to another. You can copy assignments from configuration to configuration, role to role, or user to user using the following procedure:

  1. Select the appropriate view, such as Role.

  2. In the list on the left, select the role with the assignments that are to be copied.

  3. Click the Copy button, and then click the appropriate command on the menu that is displayed.

    • Append adds the assignments to the target role.

    • Overwrite clears existing assignments before the copy.

  4. Select the target role.

Save the changes

The changes made to the cells are not immediately saved to the database. You can switch between the Administration and Role Assignment tabs without saving any changes.

  • Click OK to save the changes to the database and then exit.

  • Click Apply to save the changes to the database without exiting to allow for further changes to be made.

Reject the changes

  • Click Cancel to exit without saving any changes to the database.
