The Data Sheet Definer is used to map the properties of the view definitions to the cells in the Excel worksheet for the data list. To create this mapping, check out the data list template document and launch it using the Data Sheet Definer.

  1. Right-click the checked-out data list template, for example, Base Control Valve List Template, and click Launch Data Sheet Definer. Use the DataSheet Definer to map the properties to the cells in the Excel worksheet.

  2. In the DataSheet Definitions window, expand the view definition.

  3. To place a text label for a property:

    1. Select the cell where you want to place the label in the Excel template.

    2. In the DataSheet Definitions tree, right-click on the property you want to insert the label and click Insert Label.

    3. The display name defined for the property in the schema is inserted into the selected Excel template cell.

      If the property does not have a display name defined in the schema, the name of the property definition is inserted as the label text.

  4. To map a property value to a cell in the template:

    1. Select the cell, or a range of cells in the Excel template, to which you want to map the property value.

    2. In the DataSheet Definitions tree, select the check box beside the property to be mapped. The property name changes from red to green to indicate that it is mapped to the Excel worksheet.

  5. To map the UOM of a UOM-type property to a cell in the template:

    1. Select the cell in the Excel template to which you want to map the UOM.

    2. In the DataSheet Definitions tree, check the check box beside the UOM of the property to be mapped.

    3. UOM may be mapped to either the cell adjacent to the mapped property cell or to anywhere else in the Excel worksheet.

    4. To determine the UOM for UOM-type properties the following order of preference is used:

      1. Within the same cell as the value (UOM is part of the value). For example:

      6. Default SI UOM set on the property in the schema. For example:

  6. To map a property value as common for all objects to be published, right-click on the property in the DataSheet Definitions tree and click one of the following options:

    • Set as common in selected cell to map the property value to the selected cell.

    • Set as common in SPFCommon sheet to map the property value to a cell within a new sheet, SPFCommon, with a property label in the cell adjacent to the mapped cell.

    The definer automatically merges the selected cells into a single cell when the property to be mapped is selected.

    To create a data list with multiple objects, you must map the Instrument Name property and define a beginning point and an ending point for the table.

    Begin horizontal table defines the beginning point of the horizontal table in the column. The beginning point is mapped to the Instrument Name column and the properties in this column will be mapped vertically. All other properties will be mapped from left to right.

    Begin vertical table defines the beginning point of a vertical table. Properties in this column will be mapped horizontally.

    When you map Begin vertical table or Begin horizontal table, the software automatically maps the Instrument Name property to this cell.

    End table defines the ending point of the table.

    In a horizontal table, properties must be mapped from left to right. The next one must be placed next to the last for the dynamic table to be properly formed. In a vertical table, properties must be mapped from top to bottom.

  7. For each property to be mapped to the data list, repeat the steps for placing a text label and mapping the cells to a property.

  8. When finished, click File > Save on the Data Sheet Definer, (not in Excel) and close the Data Sheet Definer.

  9. In the New Items pane, right-click the checked-out data list template document, and click Edit > Check In on the shortcut menu.

  10. On the Check In form, select the document and click OK.
