  1. In SmartPlant Foundation Desktop Client, click File > New > Data Sheet Definition to open the New Datasheet Definition dialog box.

  2. In the Name box, type a name, for example, IPD_CustomControlValve.

  3. In the Description box, type a description, for example, Custom IPD Control Valve.

  4. In the Related object limit box, type an integer value to represent a limit on the amount of related data that is brought into the data sheet when it is generated.

The Related object limit represents the maximum number of entries that will be brought into the sheet and is optional. It is used only when the data sheet is configured to allow the user to create or edit relationships using a pick list.

  5. In the Data Sheet Type box, type the data sheet type, for example IPD.

    • The Data Sheet Type specified for the data sheet definition must match the Data Sheet Type specified for the method.

    • The method used to generate the data sheet is associated with a Data Sheet Type and only returns data sheet definitions with a matching Data Sheet Type.

  6. Select Support partially mapped datasheets option setting if you want this data sheet definition to save unmapped data entered in the data sheet. Otherwise, any data added to the data sheet will be deleted once the user is finished and data is written back to the database.

  7. In the View definitions box, click Find and select the view definitions, for example, IPD_Properties, IPD_Alarm, IPD_BaseConditions, and IPD_General.

  8. In the Template document box, click Find and select the template type, for example, IPD_CustomControlValveTemplate.

  9. In the Target class definitions box, click Find and select the class definition types, for example, PRCProcessInstrument, PRCProcessPoint, and PRCProcessPointCase.

  10. Click Finish. The new data sheet definition appears in the New Items pane. The following diagram shows an example of the final data sheet structure for the IPD_CustomControlValve data sheet as it appears in the New Items pane in SmartPlant Foundation Desktop Client.

You can also relate view definitions, data sheet template and target class definitions to the new data sheet definition by using the drag and drop operation in the tree view, relating each of them to the new data sheet definition.
