Batch printing is a scheduled operation, whereby the Scheduler retrieves the files to be printed. Printers, printer groups, and printing relationships must be set up before scheduling batch printing. Batch printing is configured using the FileBatchPrint method. Batch printing can also be configured as a workflow. Refer to How to Configure the Workflow Model for more information.

If the associated printing application is configured to be SmartPlant Markup Plus ("dmredl"), batch printing of Microsoft Office files uses view renditions (CSFs). If a view rendition does not exist, the software generates one and then prints it. Batch printing of Office files does not occur if view rendition generation fails. For more information, see Conversion and batch printing errors.

To print a document with markups or reference files attached, you must configure the BatchPrint client API to print documents with markups or reference files. For more information, see BatchPrint client API.

Local printing sends files directly to a selected local printer or plotter and is configured using the FileLocalPrint method.

If the default printing application is configured to be SmartPlant Markup Plus ("dmredl"), local printing of Microsoft Office files requires view renditions (CSFs). If a view rendition does not exist, printing does not occur. A message is displayed to indicate the file(s) that failed to print, and a request to generate the view rendition is submitted in the background. For more information, see View rendition error when printing Microsoft Office files locally.

For a discussion of strategies for watermarks and labels, refer to How to Configure the Document Schema.
