The following diagram displays the general architecture of the Desktop Client when it is configured for authoring with integration capabilities, such as publish and retrieve. It also displays how the SmartPlant Foundation Desktop Client interacts with the SmartPlant Foundation server.
This example contains all the assemblies as previously described, as well as additional assemblies to support communicating with the SmartPlant Client so that data can be exchanged with a data warehouse.

Framework Client – Supports calls to the Common UI; allows users to register, publish, and retrieve data from a data warehouse

Schema Component – Provides functionality for creation, parsing, validation, and comparison of SmartPlant Schema data

Common UI – An ActiveX component (.DLL) that is called by the authoring tool software

SmartPlant Client – A layer below Common UI on the client workstation

Adapter – Converts data from the authoring tool schema to an integration schema
