Performance issues when viewing a file are frequently the result of a network issue. Use the OS ping command as an initial test and refer to the additional network profiling documentation. Additionally, test moving a copy of the file from the client to the server and vice versa, evaluating the time required for each move. This information gives an indication if the problem is network related. If the times are similar to those experienced opening the file from within the system, then the problem is not with the system, but an issue with communication over the network.

Vault configuration can also impact the file access:

  • Perform regular housekeeping, such as defragmenting disks.

  • Improve file access is by locating the vaults on separate physical disks from the server and database.

    • Vaults can be moved by shutting down the system (to prevent accidental access), moving the vaults to the new OS location, opening the sytem, and updating the path defined for the vault object to point to the new location.

  • Further improve file access by setting up a separate dedicated file server. For more details, refer to Application Server Installation and Setup for SmartPlant Foundation.
