A plant is a specific class of object that represents the top level of the data hierarchy in the system. A project is a logical unit of data that is a subset of the items that make up a plant. A project is used for making controlled, incremental changes to the data in a plant. There can be multiple projects for a plant at any given time.

Configuration Top is the top node of the configuration hierarchy. This top node is delivered with SmartPlant Foundation. Data and documents created here are configuration independent; thus, visible and available for update from any configuration.

The plant is the first level in the configuration hierarchy and usually contains the as-built data. The project must be created in plant scope. This is a way of forcing a project to be created in the plant.

This guide is for administering stand-alone SmartPlant Foundation. For more information about creating and configuring plants and projects for integration, see Create a Plant Structure in SmartPlant Foundation.
