A host is a computer that stores files. In SmartPlant Foundation, host objects define servers for storing files in vaults. When you create a new vault, you identify the host, which serves as the location of the vault.
When you work with replicated vaults, the host must have a relationship with a company. If the host of the file matches or is in the set of hosts that is related to the company of the user, it can be viewed from its original location as this host has been defined to be the local to the current user.
If the host of the file is not in the set of hosts that is related to the company of the user, the software checks to see if the vault is replicated to a host that is local to the current user. If so, the file can be viewed from this local host. If not, the file must be viewed remotely from the vault from which the file originates.
If a user has no relationships with company objects or has relationships with companies that have no relationships with hosts, the file can be viewed from its original location. This is the equivalent of having a blank value for the LocalFileServerfield option on the user definition.
