Some SmartPlant Foundation features, such as datasheets, require running macros in Microsoft Excel. To enable running these macros, you must ensure that Excel's macro settings are configured to at least disable macros with notification, which prompts you to enable macros each time a workbook with macros is opened. This is the default setting when installing Excel. The VBA project model must also be trusted, which is not enabled by default.

To update these settings, perform the following procedure:

  1. Log on as the Windows user whose account is used to launch the Hexagon software on this workstation.

  2. Open Microsoft Excel as an administrator.

  3. In Excel, click the File tab on the menu bar.

  4. Click Options.

  5. Click Trust Center.

  6. Click Trust Center Settings.

  7. Click Macro Settings.

  8. Click Disable all macros with notification.

    This setting prompts the user each time a workbook with macros is opened. To avoid this prompt, you can also enable all macros, but this setting is not recommended because of security concerns.

  9. Click the Trust access to the VBA project object model check box.

  10. Click OK to save your changes.

Checking the Trust access to the VBA project object model check box enables this setting for only the one logged-in user. If necessary, you can enable this setting for all users on the workstation by creating the following key structure in the Windows registry and adding the AccessVBOM value to the Security key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Excel\Security

"AccessVBOM"=dword:1

This registry setting enables and grays out the check box so it cannot be changed by any user.

We recommend only experienced administrators edit the registry settings.
