In NavisWorks, an attribute is data assigned to provide additional information about an object and is associated with that object's graphical entity. The software stores this information as the attribute value. You can access and view pipeline and component attribute data using the Properties command.

Query pipeline attributes

You can query pipeline attributes only if a pipeline placeholder exists. The creation of pipeline placeholders is controlled by the Use pipeline placeholders setting on the Attributes tab. You must select this setting prior to model generation.

  1. Open a generated model in NavisWorks. For more information, see Open and view a model in NavisWorks.

  2. Click the pipeline placeholder graphic to select it.

SHARED Tip When you select the placeholder, the color turns from white to blue.

  3. Move the cursor to the gray area at the top of the window (the area next to the toolbar icons), right-click, and then select Properties.

The software opens the Properties dialog box.

  4. Click the 2 tab to view the pipeline attributes.

Query component attributes

  1. Click a component graphic to select it.

SHARED Tip When you select the component, the color turns from white to blue.

  2. Move the cursor to the gray area at the top of the window (the area next to the toolbar icons), right-click, and then select Properties.

The software opens the Properties dialog box.

  3. Click the PDS Component Data tab to view the component attributes.

  • The options that you select in the Attribute Creation and External Data sections on the Attributes tab prior to model generation determine the identity and the quantity of the attributes that the software displays.

  • For more information about querying tags, refer to the Help documentation delivered with NavisWorks.
