Piping data files are generated by 3D design applications as an input for Isogen. For example, PDS produces an Intermediate Date File (IDF) for each pipeline, whereas AutoPlant produces the Piping Component File (PCF). Generally, the data contained in piping data files is enough for Isogen to generate the required drawings and material lists. However, when you are importing piping data files into Intergraph Spoolgen for additional editing, it is sometimes necessary to alter these files before they are processed a second time.

Intergraph Spoolgen provides utilities for the pre- (or post-) processing of piping data files. These utilities provide commands for correcting bad data and removing objects, attributes, or information that are no longer required. Files are usually processed in batches using the commands defined in a configuration file.

One such utility is the Piping Data Processor. This utility is commonly used when you are importing piping data files, particularly IDFs, from a 3D design application. The Piping Data Processor allows you to pre-process piping data files to add attributes, or to change, edit, or delete records, so that a 'fixed' piping data file can be successfully imported.

  • The Piping Data Processor always preserves the original IDF or PCF, so it is possible to roll back to the starting point. However, always take care when modifying input piping data.

  • If you are using SPOOLGEN 4, the Piping Data Processor utility supports pre-processing .mod files.
