  1. Click Integration > Create 3D Work Area Definition.

  2. From the classification tree, select the type of work area definition you want to create, and continue to step 2 of the wizard. For more information about the types of work area definitions, see Learn more about Smart 3D work area definitions.

  3. In the Main Details tab, fill out the Name and Description boxes for the new work area definition.

  4. From the Target Project list box, choose the tool signature of the authoring tool instance you want to synchronize information with.

  5. In the Plant Breakdown Structure search box, start typing the name of a plant breakdown structure node to create the work area definition for, and select the nodes you want the work area definition to apply to.

SHARED Tip As you type, the tree view beneath the search list box is updated to match your information.

  6. To filter objects to be synchronized based on one or more named spaces in Smart 3D, select an item from the Named Space list.

  7. To synchronize specific types of objects, select one or more options from the list in the Object Types box. For more information about synchronizing object types, see Synchronize a work area definition with 3D objects.

  8. Select your organization.

  9. From the Break Down Structure tree, select the level from which you want to synchronize your data.

  10. Select the For Subscription check box to indicate that this filter should include graphic details for the included objects.

  11. From the System Information tab, enter the volume coordinates in SI units of measurement for the scope that needs to be retrieved from Smart 3D.

  • Each target project is limited to only one work area definition.

  • Once a work area definition is created, you can edit it to increase the scope included, but you cannot reduce the scope.

  • The volume coordinates must be in SI units of measurement even if they are written using imperial units of measurement in Smart 3D.

  • Once a work area definition is used in the authoring tool, Actions > Update is not visible on the Named Space associated with that work area definition, and the Volume Criteria associated with that work area definition are read-only.
